We recently delivered this wedding album to one of the wonderful couples with whom we worked in 2011. They chose black silk brocade for the cover, which is unusual, but makes an elegant and striking package. They held their wedding at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden during cherry blossom season, so the pinks and springtime greens of the gardens really stand out inside the dark exterior binding.
Like most photographers, I love destination weddings. A few months ago, I photographed a destination wedding, but it happened to be a destination right next door: New York City. Yoko, the bride, used to live in New York with her family. While she has moved back to Japan, New York is still a special place for her, so that’s where she wanted to get married.
It seemed like it never snowed at all this past winter, but Yoko and Yusuke’s wedding happened to be on one of the very rare snow days. New York City is always magical in the snow. And the bride and the groom were troopers — they wanted to get the most out of their short stay in the city, so we took portraits everywhere from the Waldorf Astoria to the New York Public Library to Rockefeller Center to Times Square, and then all they way up to Riverside Church for their ceremony.
